Project Management Service for a 4500m3/d Textile Wastewater Treatment Plant in Pakistan (2004 to 2005). ESD provided project management service for feasibility study and process selection, process design, contract negotiation with the selected subcontractor, supervisory on detailed design, equipment procurement management, process commissioning management, troubleshooting for the process operation and maintenance. ESD was also responsible for the quality and schedule control.


Energy Audit and Energy Efficient Building Design for Shanghai American Schools (2006-2007). Inogen ESD/BECO team completed comprehensive energy audits for two campuses of the prestigious Shanghai American School. The audits identified a number of immediate energy saving opportunities that fully recouped the cost of the audits (i.e., simple changes of practice without capital investment) along with more substantial savings with payback periods of less than one year. The project was further extended into energy saving design for the expansion of the Pudong campus, which saved the client approximately $1.5 million USD by avoiding the expansion of power substation and doubling of feeding cables. This was done through a combination of energy saving and peak shaving designs that minimized the peak electricity demand of the entire campus.


Tianjin Dagu Canal Sludge Dredging and Treatment Project 每 Funded by GEF, Tianjin, China (April 2004每ongoing). ESD jointly with ERM China Ltd undertake the TA for Tianjin World Bank Project Office. The project include sediment dredging, dewatering and landfill disposal for 83 km Dagu Sewage Discharge Canal. The TA provides professional advice covering sampling, pilot trials, design review and landfill operation and construction and leachate treatment as well construction management services.


Emission Control Evaluation for an American Manufacturing Company in Shanghai, China, 2004 and 2005. ESD was commissioned by the client to conduct a kiln emission monitoring. The purpose of the monitoring program is to measure the main air pollutants in the emission from their production kiln, including Nitrogen Oxidizes (NOx), Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) and Total Hydrocarbon (THCs), and determine their compliance status with the applicable environmental discharge limits. A 30-hour continuous sampling run was conducted for an entire production cycle. The detailed works include: applicable US EPA method selection, field work planning and management, and reporting.


Shandong Water Supply Utilities 每 Benchmarking Study funded by World Bank, Shandong, China (June to September 2006). ESD conducts data collection training, data quality control and auditing, utility performance analysis based on World Bank IBNET benchmarking tool for 30 water utility companies in Shandong Province, China.


Tianjin Yuqiao Reservoir Water Resources Management Study funded by US EPA, Tianjin, China (April 2005 to September 2006). ESD professionals worked with US EPA specialists to investigate the cost effective solutions preventing from water resource pollutions from non-point sources and manure management.


Health, Safety, Social and Environmental (HSSE) Management for a Seismic Survey Field in Sichuan, China, 2005-2006. ESD provided two HSSE managers to assist a US-based petroleum resources company to manage the HSSE program in the field. ESD responsibilities included the set-up of HSSE management and explosive security programs, training of over 1400 workers, supervision of fieldwork and management of safety reward programs, incident investigations, daily meetings, weekly/monthly reports, communication with local communities and management of social responsibility initiatives.


Development of Pilot Plant of 100m3/d Using Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) Technology, Tianjin, China (2005-ongoing). ESD Technology Development Team works with a leading Japanese membrane vendor to design the pilot plant and undertake pilot trial studies for a major water reclamation plant. The study addresses water reuse, sludge digestion and leachate treatment.


Huai River Pollution Control Project (World Bank funded) 每 TA Package Institutional and Managerial Strengthening, Anhui Province, China (2002-2004). ESD in association with Louis Berger Group (US) jointly undertook TA institutional and managerial strengthening. The assignment includes providing guidance and assistance in developing corporate business plan, financial management and accounting procedures, operation and maintenance quality plan and manuals, and organizing domestic and international training for newly established wastewater companies in 8 project cities.


Hubei Urban Environmental Project (World Bank funded) - Feasibility Studies for Longwangzui Wastewater Treatment Plant, Hubei, China (2001 每 2002). ESD staff was sub-contracted to Ecology & Environment Inc. (USA) to assess these additional works and to produce feasibility studies to identify and cost specific projects, in sufficient detail to enable the Client to obtain World Bank funding. The feasibility study for the Longwangzui secondary treatment facilities included the following components:
·   Study of the environmental impact on the South Lake, the receiving water for the effluent, from the Longwangzui Wastewater Treatment Works
·   A study into potential secondary treatment process alternatives in order to achieve the required water quality standards.
·   Production of outline design layouts for the secondary treatment alternatives
·   A financial/economic assessment of the proposed works together with full project costing.


Diagnostic Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Survey for a Chemical Production Facility in Guangzhou, China (2006). ESD conducted this IAQ program for a leading US specialty chemical producer. In addition to the standard sampling, ESD conducted a diagnostic survey program using various real-time field detectors to identity the cause of prolonged employee compliance at the facility. An industrial hygiene survey is to follow.


Sewer Testing for Five Johnson & Johnson JVS, Shanghai (2001 and 2006). ESD was responsible for project planning, management, field work supervision, and final report QC.


EHS Corporate Training for John Deere, Tianjin, China (January 2007). ESD provided 4 days EHS regulatory training for EHS managers of John Deere companies in China.


Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) Regulatory Registers, China (2005每ongoing). ESD constructs a comprehensive HSSE regulatory database to assist with the future corporate HSSE and ethic compliance program for BP.


Chemical Registration for an American Specialty Chemical Company, Beijing/Shanghai, China (2005-ongoing). ESD provides full services to the client from regulatory consultation, inventory search, notification exemption through toxicological and eco-toxicological testing management and new chemical registration.


Hazardous Waste Management Market Survey for Guangzhou City, China (2006-ongoing). ESD leads the market survey to provide first-hand inputs to the Guangzhou Hazardous Waste Management Project funded by the World Bank Loan.


Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Industrial Hygiene (IH) Surveys for a Ceramic Catalyst Production Facility in Shanghai, China (2005-2007). ESD conducted the IAQ/IH surveys for a leading US technology company for its facility in Shanghai for multiple years.


Environmental Impact Assessment and SH&E Supports for an American Manufacturing Company in Shanghai and Chongqing, China (2006). ESD assists the client with the preparation of a comprehensive EIA update for the Chongqing facility and selection and audits of candidate hazardous waste disposal facilities, and provides seconded staff to the initial setup of SH&E management system and data base as well as the training of internal SH&E manager.


Detailed SH&E Compliance Audit for an American Electronic Manufacturer in Tianjin, China (2005). ESD audit team completed a comprehensive corporate safety, health and environmental audit using the IntelligentEHS on-line audit sofeware.


Subsurface Utility Risk Assessment for an American Advanced Material Manufacturer in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province China (May 2004). ESD provides technical assistance to the client to investigate the conditions of underground utilities, including cables and pipe lines and provide assessments as to the impacts on operational risk.


Consulting Service for Green Labeling-Gul Ahmed in Pakistan (2004). ESD provides technical assistance to Gul Ahmed Textiles in Karachi, Pakistan (Gul Ahmend) in developing a cost-effective wastewater treatment system for a Gul Ahmed facility located in Karachi, Pakistan. This project is funded by International Finance Corporation in Washington DC, USA.


Viability Study of Climate-Change Technology Export to China for Natural Resources Ministry of Canada (2003-2004). ESD in association with O*Connor Associates (Canada) undertakes market study, including JV potential, for transferring a DC solar motor technology to the Chinese market.


Eco-Template Warehouse Evaluation for Gazeley (2007). Conducting energy and environmental bench-marking for Wal*Mart logistic warehouse in Tianjin, China. Works include building energy consumption modeling, life-cycle analysis (LCA) of embodied energy of construction materials, sourcing of renewable energy products (PV and Micro-Wind Turbine), calculation of primary and secondary carbon footprints, as well as life-cycle energy, water and cost savings analysis.
